Swedish junior cyclist Vilgot Reinhold delivered a strong performance at the Junior World Cup time trial in Kigali, Rwanda, securing an impressive eighth-place finish against some of the world’s top young talents.

Despite an early start time, Reinhold quickly set the tone by producing a fast and technically precise ride. His effort earned him a seat in the leader’s chair, where he remained for a considerable stretch before stronger contenders—led by American Beckham Drake—eventually edged him out.

Fighting Spirit on a Brutal Course

The Kigali course, known for its demanding altitude and punishing cobblestone hill finish, put every rider to the test. Reinhold rose to the challenge, battling closely with competitors and even outpacing his Spanish rival in the interim splits. At the finish line, his determined push up the cobbled climb put him briefly in the top spot.

Assistant national team captain Alexander Wetterhall praised Reinhold’s performance:

“Vilgot ran a very well technically executed tempo race. Nothing to say about it. It was a VERY GOOD execution where he shows that he can ride at a very high level pace. He had to sit in the ‘hot seat’ as a leader for quite a long time before an American came in and took that place.”

Tempo Suits Reinhold

Reinhold’s ride highlighted once again that the time trial discipline suits him perfectly. His ability to combine raw power with technical precision reinforces Sweden’s growing strength at the junior level, continuing what has already been a strong season for the national team.

With this top-10 finish in Kigali, Reinhold has shown he’s more than capable of competing with the best on the world stage—and this is likely just the beginning.
