The PRE-EM series has officially reached a new milestone, now recognized as the Nordic Championships. This prestigious upgrade means that the UCI Mountain Bike Continental Series in Gothenburg has earned the designation of Nordic Championships (NM), positioning the city as a central hub for elite cycling talent across the Nordic region and Europe. Scheduled for May 9–10, 2026, the event promises to attract top riders and fans alike, transforming Gothenburg into a vibrant stage for international competition.
The series, sponsored by CK Master, is not only a highlight of the UCI Mountain Bike Continental calendar but also serves as a preview of the 2027 European Championships. With its new Nordic Championships status, the event strengthens its role as a stepping stone toward continental glory. CK Master has emphasized its commitment to broadening the reach of cycling by introducing Nordic Championship categories for younger athletes aged 13–14 and 15–16, as well as for master riders. This expansion reflects the organization’s dedication to nurturing community engagement and inspiring the next generation of cyclists.
The Gothenburg Mountain Bike Race, now renamed the Nordic XCO Championships, will take place at the Skateas circuit. This venue is already renowned as the future site of the 2027 European Championships and has previously hosted races within the UCI Mountain Bike Continental Series.
Victories in this series carry significant weight, as winners qualify directly for the World Cup. In essence, the Nordic XCO Championships will serve as both a prestigious competition and a qualifying round for the European Championships, adding further importance to the event.
Daniel Dandner Leggersten, CK Master’s Events and Communications Manager, expressed pride in the achievement: “Bringing the Nordic Championships to Gothenburg proves we made the right investment. It closely links our vision of inspiring young people to participate in the sport with our dream of competing against the best. Now, our young riders and veterans have the opportunity to compete for championship medals on the same track as the international elite.” His words highlight the dual mission of the event—fostering grassroots participation while showcasing world-class competition.
Other cycling leaders echoed this enthusiasm. Marin Lindgren Hentoch, Jonas Grundonen, and Jonas Grund emphasized the unique opportunity the Nordic Championships provide: “It’s great that the Nordic Championships are being held on the same track as the upcoming European Championships. This will be a fantastic preview opportunity for Nordic riders, who will also be competing against international riders from other parts of Europe in the same event. We look forward to a true cycling extravaganza in Gothenburg in May.”
The Nordic XCO Championships are more than just a race; they represent a pivotal moment in Gothenburg’s journey toward hosting the European Championships in 2027. By combining youth development, community involvement, and elite-level competition, the event underscores the city’s growing reputation as a cycling powerhouse
