Caroline Andersson Stable After World Championships Crash in Montréal

Swedish rider Caroline Andersson is in stable condition after undergoing surgery following a serious crash during the Elite Women’s Road Race at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montréal.

Both Caroline Andersson and Julia Borgström were involved in the major crash during Saturday’s 180.1-kilometer race. Andersson was taken to hospital, while Borgström was reported to be doing well considering the circumstances.

Andersson Taken to Hospital After Crash

The incident occurred with approximately 94 kilometers remaining as multiple riders came down on the Montréal circuit. The crash affected a significant group of riders, including both Swedish representatives.

Andersson received medical attention at the scene before being transported to hospital in Montréal.

The Swedish Cycling Federation later confirmed that she had suffered an open collarbone fracture, along with a small bleed in the hip area that doctors were monitoring. She was conscious and able to communicate after the incident.

Surgery Completed, Condition Stable

According to an update from Swedish national team assistant coach Alexander Wetterhall, Andersson underwent surgery on the broken collarbone later that evening in Montréal.

Her condition was subsequently reported as stable, and she remained in hospital receiving care while experiencing significant pain from the crash.

The Swedish team had not yet confirmed when she would be able to leave hospital.

Julia Borgström Reported Okay

Julia Borgström was also caught in the crash and did not finish the World Championship road race.

Swedish Cycling reported that Borgström was doing well considering the circumstances following the incident. Both Swedish riders were ultimately recorded as DNFs.

The crash brought a difficult end to Sweden’s Elite Women’s World Championship road race, where Andersson had entered as the team’s primary rider with Borgström supporting her.

Results take a secondary role after a day like this.

The encouraging news is that Caroline has undergone surgery, her condition is stable, and she continues to receive medical care in Montréal.
