Two absolutely scorching hot days in the saddle for our boys have just come to an end yesterday in Szekszard. Although the stages were short in length, the 40+°C temperature and the "junior style" of racing (attacks over attacks the whole race) made up for the lesser amount of time spent on the bike.
The first day was very chaotic with a lot of attacks but no proper breakaway up front for more than 10-15 kilometers at a time. Our boys marked every important move, however, the stage win was still decided in a bunch sprint finish, where Mattew Piciu narrowly missed out on a top 10 by finishing 13th after a technical uphill finish on cobbles. The rest of the boys also finished in that front group with no time lost on the road as a team during this stage.
The second day proposed a shorter and hillier parcours, which also featured a hill-top finish to spice things up a bit more. After a very offensive first half of the race, where a lot of attacks were covered by the team, Gerhard Moldansky managed to break clear with a big group up the road and stayed there up until the finish line. Unfortunately, it was 11th place for him in the stage, which also meant 11th in the final GC, just a couple of seconds from the final top 10! A bittersweet ending of a great day out for us, but we'll keep on fighting! Big up to our boys for being competitive even in these extreme heat conditions!
